What is Wrong With People?
The problem with the world is simple. There are almost eight billion humans according to World Population Projections. Each one of them with their own idea of what’s right and wrong. Some are peaceful. Some aren’t. A bit like the lady I come across today. I was riding along the footpath on my bicycle and she was stood talking with her friends.
Now it goes without saying that I was breaking the law. This makes me a criminal, I guess. However, laws are made to protect the public, not punish individuals. In the case of riding a bicycle on a footpath it isn’t exactly murder, is it? In the whole of Wales last year there were only 11 people prosecuted for such a crime. You can imagine that the majority of those were riding recklessly, whereas I was being considerate and riding at a fast walking pace.
So while I was in the wrong technically, you could say that in reality I posed no danger to anyone.
Inconsiderately Blocking the Footpath
When I approached the lady and her friends, they were stood talking, as people do in a high street area. Not something that I would personally complain about, because we’ve all done it. On this occasion, though, when she said to her friend – he shouldn’t be on the pavement – her words sunk into my conscience to devour later.
Tit for tat is childish. It’s not how I roll. That said, it just made me think about how people love to complain about absolutely bugger all. Fair enough if I was zooming along knocking bins over, but I wasn’t. They were the ones blocking the pavement.
Morally Right and Legally Wrong
The point being, in life you can be legally and morally right or wrong. I’d rather be morally right and legally wrong, unless it was going to cost me my money or freedom. Regardless, what is wrong with people today? It’s as if they don’t have anything real to complain about so they moan about pathetic things instead.
Why don’t they moan about Brexit or Donald Trump? Then again, I quite like The Donald simply because everyone else hates him. He gets far too much stick for what he has actually done wrong.
Take 9/11 For Example
There were almost 3000 people killed in the Twin Towers. We can all agree it was a sad day for America and the world. What I find hard to comprehend is the aftermath. In the following years, in Iraq alone there were over 4400 US troops killed. Not to forget over 30,000 disabled servicemen and women.
How can Donald Trump being rude to someone make more news than the total disaster of The Gulf Wars?
Now I realise that there have been many complaints in the news slating George Bush and Tony Blair, but if justice was proportionate to their actual war crimes, they’d be in jail now.
Even Noam Chomsky, one of the brightest minds in the whole world has said America commits terrorist acts.
People Have Lost Grip on Reality
For all the technological achievements of the modern world, it seems that mankind is as backwards as ever. Whenever there’s an overload of something we take it for granted. Whether that is too much freedom, cheap food or endless products that damage the environment, but don’t make us any happier.
People in the old Soviet Union would have loved the most basic of human needs, never mind the freedom to complain. In the West, though, we just use it to moan about the stupidest of things. Don’t get me wrong, you can’t beat a good old moan, especially about the weather, but not about cyclists that don’t pose a threat. That’s just plain wrong.
